Formed in 1992, the Young Cattlemen’s Committee started with the idea of giving those who are the future of the beef cattle industry the chance to get involved early. Not only does YCC help young ranchers-in-the-making learn about the issues facing agriculture, but helps connect them with mentors in the industry and other young cattlemen who are passionate about the same lifestyle and career choice they are.
Every year, over $49,000 is awarded to YCC members in scholarships and other benefits include discounted registration for CCA events and subscriptions to California Cattleman magazine and California Cattleman Weekly E-newsletter.
CCA offers an annual convention internship for students to participate in (see below for more details). Outside of this program, CCA is willing to work with prospective intern candidates to develop non-paid internship opportunities. We do not currently offer paid internships. The Application period for the 2024 California Cattlemen’s Association Convention Internship is now open!
Each year YCC members have the opportunity to apply and serve as a CCA Convention Intern. The weeklong internship provides students with a hands-on and behind-the-scenes view of all the working parts of putting on a convention. Interns assist with registration, directing attendees, running the CCA merchandise table and much more. Additionally, interns have the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, and attend select meetings, general sessions, and the tradeshow with a complimentary registration.
To apply send a resume and cover letter detailing why you would like to serve as a convention intern to Maureen LaGrande at maureen@calcattlemen.org by Friday, Oct. 11, at 11:59 p.m. PST. Any young, regular or feeder member are eligible to apply for this internship. Past interns are eligible to reapply. In 2023, over $49,000 in scholarships was awarded. Scholarship amounts and quantities vary year to year. By filling out the CCA standard scholarship application you are eligible for any or all of the following:
CCA Allied Industry Scholarship: Due to the outstanding support of the CCA Allied Industry Council, scholarship assistance is available to students currently enrolled in higher education or those with a senior status in high school.
Hank Stone Memorial California Beef Cattle Improvement Association Scholarship: The outstanding support of the California Beef Improvement Association (CBCIA) has made available scholarship assistance to students interested in beef cattle genetics and/or breeding. Students applying should have a demonstrated a continuing interest in beef cattle.
Livestock Memorial Research Fund Scholarship: The Livestock Memorial Research Fund (LMRF) has provided exceptional scholarship assistance to students currently enrolled in veterinarian school or planning to be enrolled in veterinarian school in the near future.
Tom Grimmius Memorial Scholarship: The family of the late Tom Grimmius will award this annual $2,500 scholarship to an outstanding college student who has plans of working in the beef industry as a producer. This scholarship began in 2013.
