CDFW Provides Updates Regarding Wolf-Livestock Compensation Program Evaluation
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has issued a press release announcing that it has “started a process to evaluate California’s Wolf-Livestock Compensation Program.” Additional details of that process, including plans for a stakeholder survey and “four public meetings in counties with wolf presence,” are available on the agency’s Wolf Livestock Compensation Grants website. That webpage also includes the meeting materials from two stakeholder meetings in which CCA staff participated. For additional details, see the March 16 edition of California Cattleman Weekly.

The theme is Rangelands, Relationships and Open Dialogue, and your voice is important!

The Summit will take place in Stockton and the keynote speaker is Dr. Lynn Huntsinger, UC Berkeley. The Tour is at the Stone Lakes Refuge along I5 at Elk Grove.

Workers’ strike at one of the largest US meatpacking plants will continue for a 3rd week SFGate “Thousands of striking workers at one of the nation’s largest meatpacking plants will extend their walkout to a third week as they push for higher wages and better health care. Industry experts said it’s too early to know if the strike that began March 16 at the Swift Beef Co. plant in Greeley, Colorado, will impact retail beef prices that already had soared to record levels.” To read more, click here.

Diesel prices hit $7 per gallon in California, squeezing Escondido dairy farmer NBC 7 San Diego “Due to the war in Iran, the cost of gas has risen to an average of $5.90 per gallon. As NBC 7’s Allison Ash explains, the price of diesel is even higher. That price affects everything from food to building materials and retail items that are shipped in trucks that use diesel.” To hear more, click here.
