CCA Wolf Policy Subcommittee to Meet During Annual Convention
CCA’s Wolf Policy Subcommittee will meet at 7:00am on Thursday, November 30 in conjunction with the 107th Annual CCA Convention at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nev. The meeting will be focused on the California Department of Fish & Wildlife’s Wolf Compensation Pilot Program and will feature Dr. Ken Tate and Dr. Tina Saitone from University of California Cooperative Extension.

The intent of the meeting is to identify future needs for the Wolf Compensation Program and provide CCA staff additional direction for lobbying California lawmakers and regulators.

The meeting is open to all CCA members interested in wolf policy matters.

2023 Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV)

The VSV incident and situation in California remains active and ongoing, and continues to require vigilance throughout the state. Ongoing and active outreach to encourage prompt reporting of suspect lesions in horses and susceptible livestock and an immediate movement of any suspect animals will continue to assist with preventing virus spread by infected animals. Newsom accelerates plans for California’s largest reservoir in nearly 50 years San Francisco Chronicle “The proposed $4.5 billion Sites Reservoir, envisioned 70 miles north of Sacramento, would be the first major reservoir built in California in nearly half a century. NCBA Again Strongly Opposes USDA’s Decision to Allow Paraguayan Beef Imports National Cattlemen’s Beef Association “The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) strongly opposes the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) decision to allow Paraguayan beef imports starting next month. NCBA has repeatedly raised concerns with USDA over Paraguay’s history of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and the outdated information used to justify Paraguay’s access to the U.S. market. NCBA is concerned that USDA’s failure to use information from recent site visits in the risk assessment may pose great risk to the safety of the U.S. cattle herd.” To continue reading, click here.

Inyo National Forest, BLM seek input on proposed wild horse gather Bureau of Land Management “Inyo National Forest, in coordination with the Bureau of Land Management Bishop Field Office, is seeking public input on proposed gathers of wild horses outside the Montgomery Pass Wild Horse Territory in Mono County, California. The proposed gathers would maintain sustainable wild horse herd management levels, protect resources on public and private lands, protect proposed critical habitat for the bi-state distinct population segment of greater sage-grouse, and address public safety concerns for motorists.” To continue reading, click here.
