PRESCRIBED BURN ASSOCIATIONS
Community-based burning organizations known as Prescribed Burn Associations (PBAs) are growing like wildfires. As of June 2020, there are 12 of these PBAs across California, actively burning in over ten counties.
In recent decades, California fire suppression agencies have attempted to take on the state’s burden of vegetation management to no avail due to the overwhelming task that it has proven to be. PBAs continue to form as private citizens and landowners decide that it is in their best interest to manage woody fuels and vegetation for the safety, economic and ecological benefit of their communities.
