CCA’s Feeder Council
The California Cattlemen’s Association’s Feeder Council consists of producers who feed cattle throughout the state of California. Finishing cattle with an energy-dense diet is an important part of the beef production chain. With limited exceptions, all cattle are grass fed and are ultimately finished in a feedlot just prior to harvest. Cattle feeders work closely with veterinarians and nutritionists to ensure the highest level of animal care and diets are formulated to meet the animal’s every need. California’s temperate climate is perfect for feeding cattle and to that end, feeding cattle was perfected in California’s Imperial Valley. Although California is no longer the largest feeding state in the nation, a vibrant industry still exists located mainly in the Central and Imperial Valleys.
As an organization within CCA, the Feeder Council develops recommended policy on issues affecting cattle feeders in California. Each spring, CCA feeder members gather for the annual Feeder Council Meeting to hear from knowledgeable speakers who share their views on issues of importance to the industry in California and to interface with leading researchers, industry organizations, policy advocates and government officials.
