CDFW Releases New Wolf Depredation Reports
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife earlier this month announcedthat it has released thirteen new “livestock loss determination” reportsregarding suspected wolf depredations of livestock, dated between July 31 and September 18. The reports confirm 11 livestock kills by wolves across 10 separate incidents. Overall, CDFW has found wolves responsible for 40 livestock depredations so far in 2024, with 25 animals confirmed to have been killed by members of the Whaleback Pack. Participate in the 2024 Cattlemen’s Poster Session
Participate in the 2024 Cattlemen’s Poster Session happening at Convention! The goal of the session is to inform attendees about the ongoing beef cattle research and education efforts being conducted in California. Posters can be something that was presented at previous meetings and there is no limit to the number of posters brought from each lab/program. The deadline to submit posters is Friday, Nov. 8. If Feds De-List Wolves, Will Other States Follow Wyoming’s Lead And Hunt Them? Cowboy State Daily “There are also wolves in Oregon and Washington state, where they may not be hunted and remain under full federal protection. California’s growing wolf population is also fully protected. PLC Welcomes UNR Study That Busts Common Cattle Myth Public Lands Council “The Public Lands Council (PLC) hailed a recent University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) study that shows that the digestive process of cattle renders cheatgrass seeds effectively inert, virtually eliminating any ability for those seeds to germinate into new plants.
