Stephen Koontz, Colorado State University Professor in the Dept. of Ag and Resource Economics
Stephen will speak during the Opening General Session on Wednesday from 4-5:30pm.
Stephen Koontz is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Colorado State University. He works in the areas of commodity marketing, risk management, market price analysis, and agribusiness industrial organization. His interests are in commercial agriculture production and marketing and the functioning agribusinesses. His responsibilities at Colorado State University include outreach, teaching, and research.
Colin Woodall, NCBA Chief Executive Officer
Colin will share about NCBA’s recent efforts in Washington, D.C. and beyond during General Session #3 on Thursday from 1-2pm.
Colin Woodall is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and leads the country’s oldest and largest national trade association for cattle producers in being the trusted voice and definitive leader of the beef industry.
Originally from Big Spring, Texas, Colin graduated from Texas A&M and then worked as a grain elevator manager and merchandiser for Cargill at several locations in western Kansas and the Oklahoma panhandle. After venturing to Washington, Colin took a job with U.S. Senator John Cornyn from Texas. He has been with NCBA since 2004 and served as the association’s Chief Lobbyist in Washington, D.C., for a decade. He is a founding member of the Government Relations Leadership Forum, a life member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, member of the Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Association, the Agribusiness Club of Washington, D.C., the Washington Agricultural Roundtable, and is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Agriculture Council of America. He also volunteers as a junior commercial steer show judge at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition.
Kaitlynn Glover, Public Lands Council and NCBA Natural Resource Executive Director
Kaitlynn will speak in multiple policy meetings and updates on Thursday.
Kaitlynn joined NCBA and PLC at the start of 2020 and works closely with CCA staff on public land and natural resource issues impacting California and the West. To learn more about Kaitlynn and the experience she brings click here.
Daren R. Williams, Almond Board of California
Daren will be leading a basic media training on Wednesday afternoon and an advanced training on Thursday morning. Check the schedule for more details. All are welcome to participate.
Daren joined the Almond Board of California in February 2018 as Senior Director of Global Communications, directing the Board’s Reputation Management, Industry Relations and Communications, and Field Outreach and Education programs. In this role, he oversees communications to almond growers to drive adoption of best practices throughout the industry and, in turn, share the positive story with customers and consumers.
Prior to joining ABC, Daren was senior executive director of communications at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in Denver, where he led issues and crisis response, media relations and grassroots advocacy efforts for the Beef Checkoff for more than a decade.
A native Kansan, Daren began his career on the 1988 presidential campaign of Senator Bob Dole (R-KS). When that effort fell short of the White House, he joined Agri/Washington, a Washington, D.C.-based agricultural public affairs firm, representing clients in the halls of USDA, FDA, EPA, and Capitol Hill.
After 10 years in the Nation’s Capital, Daren returned to his Midwestern roots to join the Kansas City office of Fleishman Hillard International Communications, where he provided communications counsel for a wide variety of clients in food and agriculture, health care, and consumer products.
Daren holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Ottawa University in Kansas, where he met his wife, Leslie. Daren and Leslie have two grown daughters, Shelby and Haley.
Brett Stuart, Global AgriTrends
Brett will speak during General Session #2 on Thursday from 8-10am.
Brett Stuart is a founding partner of Global AgriTrends, a Denver based firm founded in 2006, focused on research, analysis and forecasting of the global agriculture sector. The work of the firm specializes in coverage of the global meat and poultry sectors. The firm also conducts research around the globe and provides market analysis to a wide variety of clients from multi-national meat companies to pharmaceuticals to exporting firms and trade associations.
Patrick Linnell, CattleFax
CCA looks forward to hearing from Patrick at this year’s CattleFax Breakfast on Friday morning.
Born and raised in eastern Oregon, Patrick Linnell grew up with a commercial and registered Red Angus background. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal science and agricultural business from Colorado State University, where he was a member of both the meats and livestock judging teams and was involved in other clubs and activities. In fall 2017, Patrick earned a master’s degree in agricultural economics from CSU. His research focused on price forecasting and fed cattle markets.
Patrick joined CattleFax as an analyst in January 2018 and currently serves as the Director of Cattle Market Research and Analysis. His primary responsibilities include fundamental research and analysis within the cattle markets, as well as helping producers navigate markets and manage risk within their operations. Patrick is responsible for serving CattleFax members in the western region and writes frequently for CattleFax publications.
Patrick and his wife, Jordy, live in Castle Rock, Colorado with their two Corgis. They frequent the ski slopes in the winter and enjoy helping with the family operation in Oregon whenever possible. Patrick also helps coach the local 4-H livestock judging team.
Brian Bledsoe, Meteorologist

Dr. Eric Scholljegerdes, New Mexico State University
Dr. Scholljegerdes will speak on Thursday during CBCIA’s Producer Education session from 4-5pm. This session is sponsored by CBCIA.
Dr. Scholljegerdes is a Professor in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences at New Mexico State University. He is the Range Livestock Nutritionist with an emphasis in cow/calf nutrition with a focus on strategic supplementation programs that not only improve cow reproduction but also improve the longevity, health, and growth performance of their offspring.
Michele Payn, Cause Matters Corp
Michele Payn, CSP, connects the people and science of food and farming as principal of Cause Matters Corp. She is known for being a community catalyst, a passionate advocate for global agriculture —and antagonizing people into action. She will be a keynote speaker for the California CattleWomen.
Michele has worked with farmers in more than 25 countries, raised over $5 million in sponsorships for the National FFA Foundation and founded AgChat and FoodChat on Twitter. The application period for interns is now closed.
Selected interns will help run CCA’s tradeshow booth, onsite registration and other behind the scenes tasks at the event, they will also get to attend select meetings of interest, general sessions and the tradeshow with complimentary lodging and registration. Additionally, the interns will get to interact with CCA leadership and staff, as well as industry leaders at the best attended meeting of the year.

CATTLEMEN’S POSTER SESSION
The deadline to submit posters was Nov. 4. Please join us as an attendee of the session from 2-4pm on Thursday.
Participate in the 2022 Cattlemen’s Poster Session happening at Convention! The goal of the session is to inform attendees about the ongoing beef cattle research and education efforts being conducted in California. Posters can be something that was presented at previous meetings and there is no limit to the number of posters brought from each lab/program.
