Speakers will cover topics such as USDA’s proposal to achieve EID for cattle moving interstate, current intrastate traceability regulations and market opportunities to increase demand for US beef overseas. Workshop participants will receive an update from the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) regarding USDA’s proposal to require all sexually intact cattle older than 18 months of age moving interstate to transition to the mandatory use of a USDA approved RFID tag.

Additionally, the California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) will discuss current state regulations governing the movement of livestock intrastate and expected changes to livestock identification requirements that accompany brucellosis vaccinations for replacement heifers younger than 12 months of age.

Producers will also receive a comprehensive market update and specifically the value afforded by current and emerging export markets for U.S. beef. In addition, the listening session will provide an opportunity for participants to provide direct feedback to USDA and CDFA on the federal EID proposal and the associated timeline.
