DESCRIPTION:For the first time since 2019\, The California Cattlemen’s Association is excited to invite CCA members to the 42nd Steak and Eggs Legislative and Regulatory Breakfast + Lobby Day. Breakfast starts at 8am! \nWhat to expect:\nThis breakfast is typically attended by dozens of elected officials\, numerous legislative staff\, and many CCA members\, and serves as an important platform to discuss issues important to California ranchers. Over breakfast\, enjoy sharing about your ranch while meeting representatives from regulatory and legislative offices in Sacramento.  \n\nFollowing the breakfast\, you will head across the street to the state Capitol to continue conversations about ranching in California. CCA will arrange private meetings with your legislative representative to enable you to voice your concerns directly to the member or one of their representatives. Your participation is critically important\, as this forum provides a priceless opportunity to share your opinions and concerns about the current and future state of ranching in California. \n\n\nHow to attend:\nThere is no cost to attend but RSVPS are required. It’s the people who raise\, pack\, sell\, cook and eat it. As Certified Angus Beef’s senior executive vice president of marketing\, Tracey guides the team to share beef quality messages and the rich heritage of family ranchers with consumers worldwide. She oversees everything from culinary arts to public relations and advertising\, yet she makes sure there’s room on her calendar to sit down with anyone interested in hearing the brand’s story. In fact\, sharing the tale and mentoring team members are at the top of her favorites list. \nTracey came to the brand right after earning her bachelor’s degree in animal science and master’s degree in the Agricultural Beef Industry Leadership Program at Colorado State University. Her first role was international director for five years\, during which she was instrumental in developing sound licensing policies and procedures for several markets. During her tenure\, international sales tripled in volume and expanded to 33 global markets. \nHer teammates in the office are like family to her and she rates the work culture second-to-none. Tracey and her husband\, Brett\, have five children and reside in Smithville\, Ohio. Their family enjoys school sports\, horses\, outdoor adventures\, travel and culinary exploration. \nSpencer Prosser\, Co-Owner of MP Agrilytics LLC\nSpencer Prosser\, Co-Owner of MP Agrilytics LLC\nSpencer Prosser is the Co-Owner of MP Agrilytics LLC (MPA). Currently\, MPA provides research to many cattle feeders in the US as well as wide scope of processors\, traders\, hedge funds\, and industry affiliates in the US\, as well as other countries with purpose of providing objective\, valuable livestock information. \nAs an Arizona native\, Spencer was raised on a large diversified ranch in northern Arizona called the -T-. Spencer attended Colorado State University in Ag Business\, Finance\, and graduate courses in Ag Econ. Later\, he was in the risk management department for Adams Land and Cattle Co (a top 10 cattle feeder) in Broken Bow\, NE before going out on his own with Lee McGlamery to start MP Agrilytics. Recently\, they have formed a sister company specializing in PRF insurance called Landmark Advisors. Currently\, Spencer resides near the family ranch with his 4 kids and wife Meghan. \nDr. Michelle Calvo-Lorenzo\, Elanco Animal Health\n\nDr. Michelle Calvo-Lorenzo\, Elanco Animal Health\nDr. Michelle Calvo-Lorenzo is the Chief Animal Welfare Officer for Elanco Animal Health and joined Elanco in 2015 as an expert in livestock welfare. In her current role\, Michelle leads discussions and develops strategies related to animal welfare\, with a focus on the areas of research\, communication\, guidance\, and innovative services for the livestock industry. Michelle graduated with a Master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of California\, Davis in 2008 and 2012\, respectively. Prior to joining Elanco\, she was an Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University and developed a research and teaching program centered on livestock behavior and welfare. Working within the industry and academia over the past decade\, Michelle is proud to work alongside hard-working producers\, packers\, industry representatives\, academics\, and veterinarians every day. She strives to have a positive impact on livestock welfare and enhance its role in sustainable agriculture. \nBrad Johnson\, Texas Tech University\n\nDr. Brad Johnson\, Texas Tech University\nDr. Bradley J. Johnson is currently the Gordon W. Davis Regent’s Chair in Meat Science and Muscle Biology and a Professor in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources’ Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University. Johnson has been in this position since June 1\, 2008. \n“Our laboratory focuses on research that increases our understanding of factors regulating growth and development of skeletal muscle in meat animals such as beef cattle and pigs\,” Our group has used exogenous growth promotants like steroidal implants and beta adrenergic agonists as models to study the mechanism of postnatal muscle growth in meat animals.  More recently\, our laboratory has focused on the effects of trace elements such as Chromium and Zinc on skeletal muscle growth in beef cattle. \nSeparately\, the research team is involved in developing novel means to enhance marbling in beef.  This research focuses on novel receptors present on intramuscular adipocytes that appear to have positive effects on lipid accumulation. \nPrior to coming to Tech\, he was a muscle growth and development Assistant and Associate Professor with the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry at Kansas State University from Oct. 2000 through June 2008. He also worked as an Extension Ruminant Nutrition and Beef Feedlot Specialist and Assistant Professor with the Department of Animal and Range Sciences at South Dakota State University Aug. 1997 through Oct. 2000. \nJohnson\, a native of Milbank\, SD\, earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from South Dakota State University. His master’s degree in animal science and doctorate in animal science are from the University of Minnesota. \nPatrick Linnell\, CattleFax\n\nPatrick Linnell\, Director of Cattle Market Research and Analysis\, CattleFax\nBorn and raised in eastern Oregon\, Patrick Linnell grew up with a commercial and registered Red Angus background. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in animal science and agricultural business from Colorado State University\, where he was a member of both the meats and livestock judging teams and was involved in other clubs and activities. In fall 2017\, Patrick earned a master’s degree in agricultural economics from CSU. His research focused on price forecasting and fed cattle markets. \nPatrick joined CattleFax as an analyst in January 2018 and currently serves as the Director of Cattle Market Research and Analysis. His primary responsibilities include fundamental research and analysis within the cattle markets\, as well as helping producers navigate markets and manage risk within their operations. Patrick is responsible for serving CattleFax members in the western region and writes frequently for CattleFax publications. \nPatrick and his wife\, Jordy\, live in Castle Rock\, Colorado with their two Corgis. They frequent the ski slopes in the winter and enjoy helping with the family operation in Oregon whenever possible. Patrick also helps coach the local 4-H livestock judging team. \nDr. Rob Atwill\, School of Veterinary Medicine\, UC Davis\,\nDr. Rob Atwill\, School of Veterinary Medicine\, UC Davis\nDr. Rob Atwill is a professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine\, UC Davis\, and Director of Veterinary Medicine Extension. He has worked closely for over 20 years with various California livestock industries in the western US to address a range of water quality\, environmental\, and food safety issues impacting livestock production.
