Johnson\, Ph.D.\, Professor\, Texas Tech University\nSpeaking on: Carcass Differences between Holstein vs. Angus vs. Dairy/Angus\nDr. Bradley J. Johnson is currently the Gordon W. Davis Regent’s Chair in Meat Science and Muscle Biology and a Professor in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources’ Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech University. Johnson has been in this position since June 1\, 2008. \n“Our laboratory focuses on research that increases our understanding of factors regulating growth and development of skeletal muscle in meat animals such as beef cattle and pigs\,” Our group has used exogenous growth promotants like steroidal implants and beta adrenergic agonists as models to study the mechanism of postnatal muscle growth in meat animals.  More recently\, our laboratory has focused on the effects of trace elements such as Chromium and Zinc on skeletal muscle growth in beef cattle. \nSeparately\, the research team is involved in developing novel means to enhance marbling in beef. This research focuses on novel receptors present on intramuscular adipocytes that appear to have positive effects on lipid accumulation. \nPrior to coming to Tech\, he was a muscle growth and development Assistant and Associate Professor with the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry at Kansas State University from Oct. 2000 through June 2008. He also worked as an Extension Ruminant Nutrition and Beef Feedlot Specialist and Assistant Professor with the Department of Animal and Range Sciences at South Dakota State University Aug. 1997 through Oct. 2000. \nJohnson\, a native of Milbank\, SD\, earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from South Dakota State University. His master’s degree in animal science and doctorate in animal science are from the University of Minnesota. \nAllyson Jones-Brimmer\, Animal Ag Alliance\n\nAllyson Jones-Brimmer\, Director of Industry Relations\, Animal Ag Alliance\nAs director of industry relations\, Allyson Jones-Brimmer fosters relationships with stakeholders of the Animal Agriculture Alliance\, a national non-profit organization working to bridge the communication gap between farm and fork. \nAllyson is responsible for raising awareness of the Alliance as well as growing Alliance membership and sponsorship. She communicates with the farmers\, ranchers and industry professionals about activist strategy and what we can do to provide a counter voice. \nJones-Brimmer holds a B.S. in animal science and agricultural science education and an M.A. in agricultural education from Cornell University. Prior to joining the Alliance in 2015\, she worked in a sales and customer service role with Farm Credit East.Jones-Brimmer grew up in northern New York\, where she gained experience in the industry through working on farms\, for cooperative extension and in a cheese processing plant. \nDonald K. Layman\, Ph.D.\, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign\n\n\nDonald K. Layman\, Ph.D.\, Professor Emeritus\, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign\nDr. Donald Layman is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Layman served on the faculty at the University of Illinois from 1977 – 2012. Dr. Layman is recognized for research about protein and amino acid metabolism\, nutrition for athletic performance\, obesity\, diabetes and cardiometabolic health. Dr. Layman has over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He has received numerous awards for his research and nutrition teaching. Dr. Layman served as Associate Editor of The Journal of Nutrition from 1989 through 1993; and he currently serves Associate Editor of the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior and on the editorial boards of Nutrition & Metabolism\, and Nutrition Research and Practice and is a consultant to numerous food companies and commodity organizations. Dr. Layman earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry at Illinois State University and his doctorate in human nutrition and biochemistry at the University of Minnesota. \nDuane Lenz\, CattleFax\n\nDuane Lenz\, General Manager\, CattleFax\nGrowing up south of Castle Rock\, Colo.\, Duane Lenz was raised on a diversified livestock operation. He graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s of science degree in animal science. \nDuane began working with CattleFax in 1989 as a market analyst. In addition to serving as General Manager for CattleFax\, Duane is responsible for Texas\, Arizona and California feedlot members\, as well as being involved in protein analysis. Prior to working with CattleFax\, Duane spent nine years as a lamb buyer for Farmstead Foods Corporation (formerly Wilson Foods Corp.). \nDuane and his wife have two children. \nColin Woodall\, NCBA\nColin Woodall\, Chief Executive Officer\, NCBA\nColin Woodall is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and leads the country’s oldest and largest national trade association for cattle producers in being the trusted voice and definitive leader of the beef industry. \nOriginally from Big Spring\, Texas\, Colin graduated from Texas A&M and then worked as a grain elevator manager and merchandiser for Cargill at several locations in western Kansas and the Oklahoma panhandle.  After venturing to Washington\, Colin took a job with U.S. Senator John Cornyn from Texas.  He has been with NCBA since 2004 and served as the association’s Chief Lobbyist in Washington\, D.C.\, for a decade.  He is a founding member of the Government Relations Leadership Forum\, a life member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo\, member of the Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Association\, the Agribusiness Club of Washington\, D.C.\, the Washington Agricultural Roundtable\, and is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Agriculture Council of America.  He also volunteers as a junior commercial steer show judge at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. \n\nADDITIONAL SPEAKERS\nKim Lawson Stackhouse\, Ph.D.\, Director of Sustainability\, JBS
