SUMMARY:Animal Disease Traceability Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Cal Poly\, San Luis Obispo Bull Test Field day for an afternoon focused on traceability. Speakers will cover topics such as USDA’s proposal to achieve EID for cattle moving interstate\, current intrastate traceability regulations and market opportunities to increase demand for US beef overseas. \nSpeaker Schedule\n3:00 pm Dr. Larry Rawson\, USDA APHIS Veterinary Services – Advancing Animal Disease Traceability: A Plan to Achieve Electronic Identification in Cattle     \n3:30 pm Dr. Rebecca Campagna\, CDFA Animal Health Branch – Intrastate animal disease traceability regulations governing the movement and sale of cattle \n4:00 pm Steve Kay\, Cattle Buyers Weekly – Beef Industry Market Update \n4:30 pm Kevin Kester\, Past President of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association –  A Producer’s Perspective & Group Panel \nWorkshop participants will receive an update from the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) regarding USDA’s proposal to require all sexually intact cattle older than 18 months of age moving interstate to transition to the mandatory use of a USDA approved RFID tag. \nAdditionally\, the California Department of Food & Agriculture (CDFA) will discuss current state regulations governing the movement of livestock intrastate and expected changes to livestock identification requirements that accompany brucellosis vaccinations for replacement heifers younger than 12 months of age. \nProducers will also receive a comprehensive market update and specifically the value afforded by current and emerging export markets for U.S. beef. In addition\, the listening session will provide an opportunity for participants to provide direct feedback to USDA and CDFA on the federal EID proposal and the associated timeline. \nThis material is based upon work supported by USDA/NIFA under Award Number 2018-70027-28587.
